Fieldwork Font
Fieldwork font by TipoType brings back the manual tradition of type design, skipping lab interpolations entirely. Each of the 24 variants was drawn through optical evaluation rather than automated generation—the team adjusted curves and details specifically for each weight to match what that stroke width actually needs. It’s a collaborative effort from the TipoType team, pulling together different perspectives to create something more versatile than a single designer could achieve alone.
The shapes blend geometric strokes (in the Geo variants) with humanistic warmth from double-storey glyphs like the ‘a’ and ‘g’ (in the Hum variants). The system expands with alternates, swashes, and matching italics across every weight. Language coverage is thorough, supporting a wide range of Latin alphabet-based families. The team credits José “Pollo” Perdomo for font production assistance and Rasmus Jappe Kristiansen for the Detroit City project work.
