Cochin Font
Cochin is a refined serif typeface designed by Georges Peignot in 1912 for the Paris foundry Deberny & Peignot. Inspired by 18th-century copperplate engravings, the font takes its name from the French engraver Charles Nicolas Cochin (1715–1790). While not a direct imitation of Cochin’s engraving style, Peignot’s version interprets that spirit through elegant curves and sharp contrast.
Cochin displays a curious mix of style elements. The font’s elegance makes it a popular choice for book titles, orchestral programs, and magazine layouts where tradition and refinement are essential. It was very popular at the beginning of the 20th century.
