Bauer Bodoni Font
Bauer Bodoni carries forward the legacy of Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813), often called the “King of Printers.” Bodoni was one of the most admired typographers of his era, known for designing typefaces, engraving punches, and producing books during his long tenure at the Duke of Parma’s press in Italy. His work gave rise to the “modern” style of type, which represented the pinnacle of late 18th- and early 19th-century typographic development. The style quickly became fashionable across Europe and influenced other punchcutters, including the Didot family in France and J. E. Walbaum in Germany.
Although some 19th-century critics found Bodoni’s types too stark or cold, the design has stood the test of time. When handled with care, Bodoni types are both elegant and romantic, offering a refined sparkle in display typography.
In 1927, Heinrich Jost created Bauer Bodoni for the Bauer Typefoundry. This revival refined Bodoni’s original details, resulting in a crisp and versatile typeface ideally suited for display typography such as headlines, logos, and advertising.
